Bought this a a prelude to an upcoming visit to Newfoundland. Lots of interesting facts - lots of dry facts. Just wondering why no mention of Gander? My father served there in the Canadian Air Force during the war and it would have been nice to be able to read some history to him; no mention of 911. What gives?
A rather loosely put-together compendium of facts about NL. Found it to be like reading a list. Some interesting information that proved useful for my first visit to see friends who live there.
Fun trivia, but not what I needed to feel ready to know the culture of Newfoundland for a visit.
This is a small, pocket sized guide to Newfoundland. It is easy to use and covers a wide range of topics.
I would give this book to someone from Newfoundland & Labrador as a gift. It is chocked full of interesting tidbits about the history of the area and the current status. I purchased it because books on travel to the province are scarce and unfortunately, this one is not helpful in planning our trip. It certainly does not claim to be a travel book, I was just hopeful.
This book is helpful for the tourist, there are some neat things to see here in Newfoundland. The tourist will find people helpful and friendly, just as the guide says. However, moving here from elsewhere in Canada, or elsewhere in the world is very different. The outsider who settles in newfoundland will always be an outsider. There is a very strong them and us, mentality and you will never be one of them.
Bought this as my wife is from Newfoundland. Lots of fun facts. PLanning on trip soon. Would recommend to anyone.
