As the Triduum approached this Lent, I found myself desiring a serious plunge into the Passion of Our Lord. Having had wonderful, moving and life-changing experiences with the Exercises in the past I bought the Kindle edition of "Station by Station". I prayed through the book from the evening of Holy Thursday until the afternoon of Good Friday. I kept a journal handy. Through Ignatian prayer and Mr. Jansen's keen insights (and the work of the Holy Spirit) I had a powerful time walking with Our Lord. I am looking forward to coming back to this book to pray with it day by day as a kind of miniature retreat, and to use during Adoration. I highly recommend it; it is an excellent primer on Ignatian prayer and is obviously the work of an author who's life has been molded by Jesuit spirituality.
I could not put this book down. Nearly the first half of this book is explanatory and i found i was close to half through it when I finally set the book down. Mr jansen is a wonderful teacher and helps you to easily use Ignation tools to live inside the gospel reading for each station. Wonderful reflections and ideas for your own reflection are included with each station. A book I will return to each lent.
You will lose yourself in the experience of the Stations of the Cross! Gary Jansen artfully leads the reader through the last hours if Jesus' life helping to imagine the scene as though one is present. His writing is eloquent and sincere, understandable to the regular person. As another reviewer put it, I'd like to echo that you will experience Christ's passion like never before. Get this book, savor it and buy some for your friends!
I absolutely love this book. I am a high school youth minister, and was looking for Ignatian meditation resources for my students, as we have been talking about different types of prayer throughout our semester. This was a wonderful resource for me to use during Lent, and the kids really responded well to it. It is approachable, but still very deep, and encompasses many different stages of life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to pray the Stations of the Cross in a beautiful, profound, and intimate way.
It's religious at times. I understand why but found it annoying. It puts the stations in context and helps being Jesus to the heart
Take time to imagine and place yourself in the presence of Jesus. His words and actions are inspiring to each of us every day. Make this book a prayer experience to encounter Christ on a new, more intimate level. Feel Christ's humanity and divinity.
Really helps to put reader in the scene of the crucifixion and brings new meaning to familiar scenes. Excellent for meditation.
Well done and interesting.
