Bought it for my boyfriend's birthday. He loves space but doesn't have the time to read long text. This books has wonderful pictures and not too long reading. Makes a great coffee table conversation book too. Original price listed on the book is $50, and I got this for only $27 - definitely worth it.

Lots of information and awesome pictures and artistic renditions. It will take my son forever to consume all of the information presented and it seems to be well maintained, presenting up to date theories on almost any astro features you might be interested in. A great resource for someone interested in the field or just in awe with the scope of the subject.

Very educational

The first book was delivered damaged; the replacement book was also damaged but not so much as the first. I opted to keep the second book because at least the dust cover was not torn. Other than that it is a fantastic book.

Beautiful book made a perfect gift for my friend.

My grand son totally loved it.

The first edition of this book was excellent other than one particular issue. The planets were spread over two pages (left and right) with the center of the planet buried in the binding. This made it difficult to see the detail or get an appreciation for the map of the planet since the book did not lay flat. It was disappointing. Note, many of the moons were relegated to a single page and thus looked great. The detail and the labelling was spot on. That meant that the maps for the moons of planets were better and easier to read than the planets themselves. This edition fixed that problem in two ways. The larger main planets that are still featured spread across two pages providing more detail but the book binding allows for the book to lay flater. Not entirely flat but much more relaxed so the book can be open to any page and it will stay open naturally. The previous edition would not and to make it flat would break the binding. A second way they fixed the problem was by not letting the map sink into the center of the book. So the image stops short and in the binding area it's black. That way the map doesn't have lost details in the binding. It really improves the quality of the experience.Having said that, everything else in this book is superb, especially since they also added more images from recent developments such as Pluto/Charon!!!Highly recommended.

I got this for Christmas and was delighted with several aspects. The most interesting one for me was .. no not the superb graphics and photos, but the "story telling"!What do I mean by that? The author, along with Buzz Aldrin's lengthy introduction, was scientific, sure, but presented as a great story. Buzz for example discussed the moon landing but then expanded into what is now the story of how we will reach the planets and why we care about farming water from asteroids. Spellbinding!Another example was the evolution of stars and their elder years when they eventually die and produce all the complex elements in your body. Yup, you're star stuff.Previous discussions were so rigid and intent upon the various star types and their evolution as categories that they left me flat and were hard to remember. Here, however, we get a great story with logical evolution that makes it trivial to reason about the hows and whys. And yes, the word "story" is not to suggest childish or simplistic. But logical and clear. You'll love it!
