I'm open minded to this subject, but this book seemed a little over the top. I even found a contradiction from this book to his other book called talking to heaven. When I realized his contradiction about an experience he had from this book to another one I read, I didn't find any of it credible anymore.
This book covers a lot of ground. One thing I didn't enjoy, at one point, was an emphasis on being careful about EVERYTHING (including who you become friends with), because I tend to be cautious, and reading that provoked some anxiety.Even though readers are cautioned to be careful and respectful, somehow I think it is fun that the author talks about instruments to measure activity -- maybe sort of "ghostbusting."I think most people have probably had weird, inexplicable experiences that have felt otherworldy. After seeing a video of Mr. Van Praagh talking about intuition and energy, I got interested in reading "Ghosts Among Us." I appreciate that this book feels like a teaching tool from him to the reader.
This book changed my life forever. Immediately after reading I purchased several copies for friends and clients but never took the time to write a review. I actually stumbled across it again when I saw James Van Praagh listed as a guest speaker on Davidji's Hay House radio broadcast.Since I was a child I have had a strong connection to the spirit world. Some of my experiences were very dark and misunderstood they had me constantly on guard and many times afraid. After reading Ghosts Among Us I have a much better understanding of the spirit world and can say in the 2 1/2 years since reading it I haven't had a single negative experience with "ghosts". But I had no idea, at the time of reading this book, that one of the spirits among me would be the man I was so deeply in love with. My better understanding of the spirit world (because of this book) is how I have been able to deal with his suicide. I have a much better understanding of his strong presence. On the day they took Ian's body from the garage where he took his own life, I was able to feel such a sense of peace knowing he isn't gone, only his body is dead. And the little things he does, letting me know he's around are unexplainable to most, but I get it! 😊Thank you James Van Praagh! I look forward to crossing paths, maybe I will be fortunate enough to see you live. sometime.
This book helped me understand how the spirit world interacts with the physical world and explains thing like where the dark spirits are and how meditation can keep your aura stronger to avoid these energy draining entities. It also explained the positive spirits that are helpful to people. Love the book!
I've chosen this book looking for answers and guidance to the unexplainable happening's I've experience in my life. I'm a truth seeker and have always felt that, I'm here for a higher purpose. James is a excellent source of knowledge and information in this field. I highly recommend this book and plan on reading his other books as well. Best detailed information I've found to date. Excited to start his next book!
The year 2009 was a bandwagon for all things paranormal in television and books, and this one published that year by James Van Praagh was no different. It appears to have been marketed and released along the same blazing trails, with most of its contents geared toward those seeking a basic introduction to their newfound interests. For seasoned readers in 2013 and beyond, however, this work may seem overly simplified.GHOSTS AMONG US covers a variety of ghostly circumstances which are given further scrutiny and interpretation with his respective readings. However, Van Praagh generalizes much of these occurrences on a wide range of normal human emotions (e.g., pain, anger, depression), and promotes an utopic "love only" existence which may seem to be quite unrealistic for most struggling to manage a physical existence alongside difficult people and circumstances on earth. It also contradicts heavily with other schools of thought, such as Life Between Lives (LBL), etc, and avoids the topic of purpose and consequential learning and soul development completely.Somewhat troubling were the obvious tones of disapproval he insinuated directly against an established church of worship from his childhood, but yet elsewhere claims to welcome faiths and practices of all walks of life. Equally troubling was his encounter with a paranormal investigator who happened to be at practical and theoretical odds with. A missed opportunity, I say, by Van Praagh to use his gift to bridge some troubled waters; or a gift which should not have been withheld or denied, perhaps, for someone really needing it. It almost appeared selfish.Not least questionable of all was the section on meditation, which after outlining a very brief methodology immediately refers the reader to purchase his Compact Discs for a more successful experience. That was in bad taste given the privileges he enjoys as a direct result of his gift.I gave this book a generous 3 and do recommend it for those just now venturing into the introductory world of the paranormal. After that, do not get stuck on any one medium and broaden your knowledge with the many other fascinating works out there.
A dream led me to James Van Praagh's books. Please read "Talking to Heaven", then read all the rest. I was a skeptic, a non-believer, judgemental, and harbored pain. I learned to meditate, receive messages from my family and friends who have passed over, and have become a more compassionate, understanding, and loving person. Until you read and study his message, you would not believe the miracles that I have realized in my life. You can do it, too. You will enjoy this book, because Mr. Van Praagh simplifies and summarizes the observations he has made throughout his life as a medium.
